How To Draw Gucci Stuff

Carla Chahrour

Amplifying the presence of manga and anime in the fashion world, Japanese illustrator Eiichiro Oda joined forces with the Italian fashion house Gucci for the creation of the "Fake/Not" Fall/Winter 2020 collection lookbook.

Eight images from the collaboration have been made available, included in an issue of the men's lifestyle magazine ELLEMEN China.

The creator of the Japanese manga series One Piece drew fictional characters Monkey D. Luffy and Roronoa Zoro dressed in Gucci clothes and accessories to showcase the pieces present in the collection. Five of the images are focused on Luffy and the other three are focused on Zoro, with each showing off the wide range of the new line that ranges from handbags, backpacks, sweatshirts to trench coats.

Luffy, the series' main protagonist is a young pirate who wishes to succeed Gold Roger, the deceased King of the Pirates, by finding his treasure, the "One Piece" is seen wearing different bag designs, notably the black leather "Jackie bag" and Gucci canvas bags with the words 'Fake' and 'Not' displayed onto the front and back over printed green and red stripes.

He is also seen oversize checkered shirts styled over ripped denim pants and a wool blazer that has the Gucci monogrammed pattern on the lining.

Zoro, also known as "Pirate Hunter", is a swordsman and combatant of the Straw Hat Pirates in the One Piece series is seen wearing diamond chandelier necklaces that twinkled from around the necks of suits and woolen trench coats, which mimic the outfit details of the looks that appeared at the Mens Fall/Winter 2020 show.

The resulting images, which are illustrated within the lookbook and on the cover, span the mediums of graphic design, drawing, painting and comic book design that serve as uniquely artistic method of showcasing the collection while simultaneously enlightening fans with what would have happened if the swashbuckling pirates had pursued a career in modeling.
